Soham Local and Family History Group
Soham Local and Family History Group was founded in 2012 and until COVID met six times per academic term at Soham Library for sessions of informal guided learning to give participants the skills to follow their own local, as well as personal and/or family history, research topics. Whilst our aim remains to publish the results of the groups research in a series of journals of Soham related articles and images, in order to preserve aspects of Soham's heritage that are in danger of being lost, we are currently taking a break from regular meetings. So far we have published ‘The Soham Journal Volume 1’ and are currently working our way through 3 future issues.
In 2018 we began a ‘Soham Buildings Survey’ and are aiming to record all of Soham’s oldest and most vulnerable buildings over the next few years. We would love to hear from anyone who can tell us something about what life was like in Soham in the good old days, and especially about life on the commons when they were still a community in their own right. We would also be grateful if anyone would like to share family photographs with us so that we can illustrate our research.
We will still carry on our research, and we may even hold some special learning events, so please do keep an eye on our events page for up and coming museum activities.
