Soham Local and Family History Group

Soham Local and Family History Group was founded in 2012 and meets six times per academic term at Soham Library for sessions of informal guided learning that give participants the skills to follow their own local, as well as personal and/or family history, research topics.  Our aim is to publish the results of the groups research in an annual journal of Soham related articles and images, thus preserving aspects of Soham's heritage that are in danger of being lost.  So far we have published ‘The Soham Journal Volume 1’ and are currently working our way through 3 future issues.

In 2018 we began a ‘Soham Buildings Survey’ and are aiming to record all of Soham’s oldest and most vulnerable buildings over the next few years.   We are currently focussing on East Fen Common, and would particularly like to hear from anyone who might be able to tell us something about what life was like on the commons when they were still a community in their own right.   We would also be grateful if anyone would like to share family photographs with us so that we can illustrate our research.   We use all kinds of resources and have access to a huge amount of reference material.  We love our history, so if you love local history and/or family history and have an interest in researching or writing history, you might like to think about joining us.   The sessions are fun and informative, FREE to join, and you get a cup of tea and biscuits!
Soham Local and Family History Group meet at Soham Library, Clay Street, Soham, CB7 5HJ on Monday evenings, 7-9pm, for six weeks of sessions at the beginning of each academic term.  If you want to find out more, please e-mail: museum@soham.org.uk  or simply join us at one of our meetings:

PLEASE NOTE: Future meeting dates to be advised in line with official guidance!  Please e-mail us if you are interested in joining us so that we can keep you informed about when our meeting schedule will resume.  In the meantime why not keep yourself occupied by researching your own family history using Ann Roberts' guide to Family History Research for FREE below...
