ABOVE: Scene of devastation from the explosion that ripped through the small fen-edge town of Soham
on 2nd June 1944.  Miraculously only 2 people died but more than 700 buildings were damaged.

Thank you to everyone who attended the 80th Anniversary Commemoration at St Andrews Church, Soham. It was a fitting tribute that so many people came to pay their respects. We were delighted to have representatives of four families that were directly involved in the incident present. We were also extremely proud to receive Ben Gimbert's own bible, presented to him at Soham in July 1944 by the Reverend Boughy, together with a very personal inscription, in Trust for the town. Living floral tributes will stay on the memorial to the rail disaster in Red Lion Square, and also on Frank Bridges grave, for the duration of summer.

Welcome to Soham Museum

Soham Museum is a living history museum project working towards premises.  Established in 1998, Soham Museum is renowned for its dynamic outreach programme and excellent variety of local and social history talks, events and activities that are held at venues across Soham throughout the year.  We hold a collection of over 4,000 items of local and social interest in trust for the community of Soham and run an active research programme focussing on our local history and aspects of life in the past on the East Cambridgeshire  fen edge.

Soham Museum
Registered Charity No. 1151345

Soham Museum is a registered charity run by volunteers.  We curate a collection of Soham related artefacts that we hold in Trust for the people of Soham.  We provide members of the general public with a FREE archiving service in order to ensure that items from our past are preserved for future generations.  We maintain a wide agenda of FREE outreach activities in order to share our rich heritage with as many people as possible.  We are currently working towards premises but are always delighted to receive donations of artefacts of local or social historical interest.  Please contact us to discuss your interest in Soham Museum, we are always happy to hear from you.

Visiting Soham

Our volunteers have an unrivalled depth of Soham knowledge.  Whilst we are not yet able to offer visitors to Soham a 'museum' experience in the purest sense of the word, we do offer bespoke tours to visitors on request in turn for a donation to Soham Museum. We often host overseas visitors and are pleased to help you make the most of your visit to Soham by undertaking some preliminary research to help you find the places that were important to your family.  We also offer guided town and church tours.

Please e-mail us for details:  [email protected]
History Group Talks
Soham Museum History Group offers an annual programme of bi-monthly talks on themes such as local, social, regional and military history.  We only book the best speakers and you are guaranteed an entertaining evening.  Please click the above button for details of our next event.  All welcome.
