Help us to create a museum for Soham

Soham Museum is one of the most vibrant and lively community groups in Soham.  We are always looking for people to join our committee.  Do you have a couple of hours one evening per month to spare?  Could you spend days researching local history?  Have you got skills you could share? Are you newly retired and looking for something to do? Would you just like to put something back into your community by volunteering? We have something to offer everyone and you would be made very welcome.  Please do get in touch and find out what we're all about.

Are you a descendant of the local millwrights 'Hunt Bros.' or have any information about the Hunt family?

Soham Museum are helping our friends at Wicken Windmill to write an article on the Hunt family who were millwrights at Waterside, Soham.  If you are a descendant of the family or have any useful information about them, including photographs and documents that we might copy, please get in touch with us at [email protected] so we can pass your details on to our contact.

Soham in the 1950s

Soham Museum has been working on a new book about life in Soham in the 1950s and we would love to share any memories you have of Soham as it was then, especially stories about the local social scene.  We know there are a lot of unseen photographs out there as well and it would be lovely if you would choose to share these with people through our book so they could see Soham as it was 'back in the day'.

Does your house have a story to tell?

Soham Museum buildings survey is a huge project that will take a number of years to bring together.  It is our aim to create an archive of Soham as it is today, focusing on the older buildings and making a record of them before they are altered or disappear altogether.  You may have seen us taking photographs in your street over the years, and we would like to thank those of you who have taken the time to come and talk to us about what we are doing.  If your house has a story to tell, we would love to hear from you.

More Soham at War

We are always interested in adding your stories to the unique experience that was Soham during the war years. Soham Museum has already published two extremely successful books of local wartime memories 'Soham at War' and 'Soham on the Home Front'.  It would be great if we could get enough stories and pictures together to publish one more episode. If you have a family memory or story to share, we'd love to hear from you.  Do you have a story about Soham during the war?
